Hi, i have a canon 500d which i have had since christmas and i am now working in manual mode(took me a while to get my head round it but i am now getting there) i upgraded the kit lens to a 28-135mm usm is and a 100-400usm is L , i find that all my photography is wildlife and birding and i feel i need for faster shooting and have been looking at the 7d mainly for the faster fps ,their seems to be a lot out there as i also so a 60d ,i dont mind a model a few years old as i am looking for a camera more suitable for what i use it for ,could any one recomend any canon model. Thanks

don't overlook the 50D they go for between £450 &b £500, if and when I go full frame will certainly be keeping mine.
A good buy if you can get one that has been looked after.

Another vote for the 50D here. Much better build quality than the xxxD series and double the frame rate. Mine stays on low speed frames 90% of the time as I do mostly portraiture but knowing the top end is there is useful for that 10% which improves the chance of nailing the shot. Mine's been pretty abused and is still going strong a year and a half in :)

After looking at the 5d and seeing the prices i have decided to go for the 7d , i have the money available but i am strugling to find a new 7d from a known company.

You may disappointed if you go for a 7D expecting a difference in IQ based on a theory a more costly body provides better IQ. the 7D is great! I know! But what is the camera you have now not doing for you that you need it too? FPS alone is not, IMHO, enough to splash out again so soon, ISO/noise/ needed features??? If you need to spend I consider more high end glass(L glass is great but there is some other nice glass too), or a donation to favorite charity. No disrespect but I used my 400D for years before I felt I had hit the boundaries tried to work around and could not because the body's capabilities. The body you have is very capable.... a lot more capable than my old 400D which provided some fantastic images when I was on form. There are also a lot of very useful accessories that will add more to IQ than a move from 550D to 7D

Decided to go for a used 50D ,so after the sale of my 500d plus 28-135mm i purchased a 50d with 4000 on the shutter , plus a 17-85mm with a battery grip and some nice extras ,which as left me even , i now have some spare money, it was the last post but one that made me think about it all .:)

you won't be disappointed and you can spend the spare cash on a good L lens and you will really see what it is capable of

oops see you have one enjoy
