I've purchased a canon 500d and am looking for the best walk around lens for site seeing holidays walks in the park, what would be the best lens for me??

Whats the budget? My stock answer is the Canon 17-55 f/2.8, but some people dont like the price too much.

Maybe ef-s 18-200 for a start off lens. covers most stuff in one.

17-50 Tamron preferably non VC or 15-85 IS but that is the easy answer to a rather difficult question which depends on what you shoot, which end of the focal range you tend to use most and what is your budget .

Budget is between £200-£500 really trading in a few lenses I have purchased on impulse and just want one decent walkabout lens which will just stay on my camera really

My walkabout is the Sigma 17-70 4-5.6 OS. I really get on well with it and you can pick one up for about £350. It had a cracking review in What Digital Camera.

What kind of lenses are you trying to replace?

The 17-50 Tamron is well within budget and an excellent lens though.

+1 for the Tamron 17-50 (non VC). It's been my "walk about" lens for around 2 years now, on both a 450 and 50D.
