Hi,

I'm getting frustrated with printed chart, on screen calibration and what seems like an endless supply of ways to blow my afternoons

Basically I have a range of lenses and seem to need to do a little with most of them, as mentioned I've tried loads of methods and frankly they don't seem to work for me and if I go to the suggested distance then even at 50mm an A4 sheet is tiny.

So I started thinking should I just give up on the cheap rubbish and try the LensAlign II?

I've only spotted it here though and is seems steep - is there anywhere cheap in the UK to get one?

Then how do people manage to get any sort of result with them?
 
That's a very good question. Personally I use an A4 target and it's plenty big enough at 50x Focal Length.
 
I use photoshop to divide up a target into usually 8 pieces then print each one A4 and then stick it all back together with sellotape.
 
I bought a SpyderLensCal and it seems to do the job, can get it for around £40ish.

Basically identical to this. Shoot it at a sensible distance, ie typical range that you would expect to use the lens at, not ridiculously close. Just make sure you're square to it, and the box is not bulging if you want to be really accurate. Really easy :thumbs:

Cheers all - I know its a mixed bag of feelings out there, but if nothing else they have made a good tutorial - here, its the first time I'd seen this done from start to finish in video and cleared up some of the vague points I had wondered about.
 
Or have a read on this thread and make your own copy?
