OK, so I've decided on a body and got my D90.

Now I'm thinking about lenses... I have the 18-105 kit lens as I thought that would be a good starter lens. I'm planning on getting a fast prime next - either 35mm or 50mm 1.8.

I won't be able to afford anything else immediately, but suggestions on other good lenses for a D90 that I can start to look at and save up for? :D

Depends what you like to shoot. The 70-300VR is excelent. A macro if you like that sort of thing, Loads to choose from..Tamron 90mm, Sigma 105mm, Nikon 105mm, plus both Sigma and Nikon have 60mm versions and Sigma have a 150 version.

A 24-70 f/2.8 by Nikon if you have lots of dosh or the Sigma version if you dont. I hear good things about the Tamron 17-55 too.

All I can suggest is getting out and shooting and see which focal lengths you sue the most, and which ones you wish you miss the most and go from there.

Nikon lens are expensive. I have a D90 and a few Tamron lens. 17-50, a good write up. 18-270 good. Check out on PHOTOZONE.

Still working out what I like shooting but so far I'm enjoying landscapes and portraits.

I think I'd like to try macro too but have no idea where to even start looking at macro lenses.

I also want to have a go at shooting my other hobby, which is dancing, but I think something like the 50mm 1.8 will be a useful lens for that, and a bounced flash (thinking of getting an SB600).

Just been reading about the 24-70 on another thread and I like the look of it... would definitely need to save up...

Thanks Tom, am doing that.

I know the lens buying thing will be a long term project and I'm not about to rush out and buy anything yet, just starting to look around at what I might like.

a tamron 17-50mm non VC is an excellent lens.
I'd imagine the nikkor 17-55mm would beat it slightly, but check out the price difference.
