Lenses for video

Now I mostly use my 60D for video and have read about using older FD mount primes for them as the quality is as good as newer lenses but for a cheaper price, I was wondering if the same applies with older FD lenses that aren't primes, would other lenses that aren't as expensive as the newer mount versions give the same type of quality.


Are there any older FD lenses that I should keep an eye out for/add to my buy list?

You should be looking at anything but old Canon FD mount - there aren't any good inexpensive EOS-FD adapters, since they require an extra element to focus to infinity.

Try looking at M42, Pentax, Olympus and Nikon etc etc etc... you can find good quality lenses at a good price.

I've had a little look around. Its mainly a 28mm I'm looking for and I've spotted some Zeiss ones, but there's loads of different kinds. Distagon, biogon, jena etc, are there any major differences and would all fit my canon with an adapter?

Ok so I went and bought a 28mm f2.8 hanimex olympus OM bayonet fit as it seemed pretty cheap and after reading some reviews and looking at some videos, i thought what the hell.

Which would be the best type of adapter to get? Should I get one with AF confirmation or just a normal OM to EF adapter?

I don't think the AF confirm will work in any of the live view based modes including video. Possibly it will work if your AF is set to quick mode but I doubt it. If you're using it for video presumably you're used to manual focusing anyway, so may as well save your money IMO.

Yeah I'll be using the manual focus anyways so it doesn't really matter too much. Does anyone recommend a brand of adapter or should ebay provide a suitable one for a pretty cheap price?

I bought a Pentax K - Canon EF AF confirming adapter from eBay a couple of years back and it worked fine. If I wanted another I'd try eBay again, but its possible I was just lucky.
