Lenses or body?

I'm considering swapping my Nikon D50, 55-200 f4-5.6 and 50 f1.8 for a Nikon D200 and 18-55.

Should I or shouldn't I? After that, I'll buy a flash then eventually a 17-55 f2.8 (if I upgrade, of course).

Thoughts?

I'd keep the D50 and buy a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8, you'll get better results from the D50 50mm combo than you will for the D200 18-55mm

Misread the title, as a swap snap his hand off

Hmm, that's tough. I mostly shoot wide angle and find prime lenses a tad restrictive.

So should I or shouldn't I upgrade the body?

My thought was that you would get rid of old consumer body and two consumer lenses for a better semi pro body. I think that is positive as long as you can get some glass for it. £200 can usually buy a great 2nd hand lens and Tamron 17-50 would fit. If this was 1:1 deal and you can spare £200 (add £50 for 18-55 lens when you sell) then go for it. D200 >> D50

I think I'll do it! After all, if it's urgent I'll just hire a lens.

both, glass makes the image but entry level bodies are a pain

I'd get the d200 then upgrade the glass as I could afford.

that kinda depends on how crap the 18-55 is, I had a tampon 17-50 on my 450d which was lovely but it shone on my 50d

tbh get the bargains where you can ;)

LOL (tampon 17-50)

i just spat my afternoon cuppa out when i read tampon! typo of the year me thinks!

Well it made my day and put a smile on my face lol

I was wondering the same thing :P although the P and R are nowhere near each other!

Keep the 50 (unless you want to get a 35mm in order to get a 50mm equivalent FF). Eventually get the 17-55. Trade the rest (if you can). You'll be happier this way.

My second camera is a D200 and it has a 18-55vr sat on it for overall area shots for work prior to sticking the Nikon 105mm f2.8 G on it. I find that it is really rather good. The 18-55 is still a good lens. The nifty fifty does go brilliantly on the D200 as the higher ISO is not brilliant and as such sticking a fast lens on it really does help avoid blurry shots.
