Hi all i have a pentax k10d and i use a sigma 28-200mm lens and feel the quality of the pics arnt as good as they could be. Has anyone ever found this using sigma? and would i be better off using a pentax lens?

Thanks Dan.

It's a lens with a pretty big zoom ratio Dans (200 divided by 28 = over 7 times) so it's not going to be that good I'm afraid. You can get away with a ratio of two or three times but once you get on to the "super zooms" it does tend to go a bit pear shaped as far as image quality goes. And that's irrespective of the make, Pentax are no worse than Canon, Nikon, Sigma, Tamron, Tokina etc. in this.

Personally I'm of the opinion that the best for IQ are still the primes, but to be fair some of the current zoom lenses are so close that it would be difficult to tell the difference in real life.

Personal opinion of course... others may disagree (they'd be wrong, but that's life) :)

Oh.... welcome to the forum, I just noticed it's you're first post!

cheers

So basicaly if i had a lens with a smaller soom then id get better quality as iv found that the light is a pain so if i went for a smaller lens say a 105mm i should get better light and better quality? but the sigma lenses them self are good?

In really basic terms yes. But there's nothing wrong with Sigma at all, they've been around for years, and make some excellent lenses.

Don't worry too much about it though, it's the image that counts. Technical image quality is all very good, but if it's a poor photograph it's still bad.
I've seen some superb shots taken with quite poor equipment and they still make you go "wow!"

Honestly, the equipment comes last. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Yes it's nice to use top class gear, and it can make it easier to get the shot. But it's what you "see" that matters.

cheers

Basically ,there are 1st class lenses in all makes,in sigma the better lenses have EX elements in them and are superb.
They are dearer ,but if you want quality you have to pay for it.

In the Nikon range they call it ED glass and it to is superb, but very dear also.

I have spent a lot of cash buying lenses willy nilly.
My advice through experience is to wait till you know what lens you want, tele, macro, wide, and then save to buy the best glass you can,
Cameras loose value over time, but good glass is always wanted so never does.
Welcome to TP:thumbs:

P.S
