Occasionally when viewing dark pics on my monitor, I see single tiny coloured dots appearing for a few seconds, and then dissapearing. They do not also appear in the same place and sometimes don't appear at all. Is this the start of the monitor about to fail?

My last flatscreen monitor had a pixel that woulf glow orange at times. Dead pixel I think.
Your problem sounds a lot worse.
If you can live with it keep going to see what happens. Mine went on for a couple of years until something else much worse went wrong.

sounds like the display controller on the driver board is starting to fail, or a dodgy connection inside where the LCD panel connects to the driver board

another thing I forgot to mention, have you checked or tried another video cable, going from the computer to the monitor?

:)

You could check the monitor cable, maybe replace it, it could also be a faulty graphics card.

I wouldn't worry unless the problem is really noticeable.

Thanks guys for the info. I think the monitor is around 3 years old, will need to check. My base unit is not that old though, just out of warranty, so hopefully it is not that. Will have a check at the connections/cables. There is aboslutely no sign of anything unless the background is very dark, so I can live with it for now. :thankyou:
