Ive used lightroom to view my Nikon raw files (NEF) when using my D90 and never had a problem, however ive recently upgraded to a D7000 and for some reason I cant view or import my NEF files. I get the message 'Preview unavailable for this file' and if i try to import the image it just says that Lightroom doesnt recognise the file type???

Any ideas?
 
I had this not with Lightroom but pse elements, needed a newer version of acr which for me wasn't possible as my version of elements doesn't support newer versions so downloaded adobe dng converter which works fine bit of a pain though
 
Sounds like you need to update Lightroom to the latest version of ACR. I've got LR3.5 and it has no probs with D7000 NEFs. If you're on LR3 ten...

On the menu bar click 'Help' -> 'Check for updates', and it should do the rest
 
An alternative is to download Adobe DNG converter - use this to make new files from your nefs (it will make DNG)

These will import perfectly into Lightroom

They also store the corrections applied - we as a matter of course convert all the RAW files we want to keep into DNG - its an option on Lightroom....
