Beginner Light Issue

Is there anyway to lighten just a specific part of an image.

I've got an image that looks reasonably nice but there's one section where its just to dark that I would like to lighten.

I've been using Photolemur which is okay to start with but now I'm getting slightly better I can see all the issues its causing to the photos The Gf has got me Lightroom and adobe photoshop but I've go no idea how to use them beyond the spot healing brush at the moment.

In Lightroom you can use the adjustment brush tool (looks like a magic wand) to lighten a part of the image. You could also use a graduated filter to lighten a section of the image (eg the top, bottom or either side). So many ways to skin a cat... as mentioned in lightroom use the adjustment brush with either positive exposure or positive shadows (will depend a lot on what you are trying to lighten). In Photoshop many different ways... google dodge and burn in Lightroom and also in Photoshop, you should get many tutorials...
