Dont worry about the pic.. poor lighting with sporlight on lifter... its the top of the pic.. a light line starts on left and goes slight deeper to right... can you see it?

happens on 1dx with different lens.
 
have you got a less detailed image its viewable on? I can certainly see a darker line, especially over to the right, as it, about 1/4 inch down from top, with image lighter either side [above & below] of it but not sure if thats the bg creating the effect and the issue you mean is the light area above it. :thinking:
 
ahhh, thats better [waiting for Gary to say its cloud], easier to see. My gut reaction would be a shutter problem, but no doubt yours was too. Can't think of anything that would cause that if its doing it on several lenses, unless the sensor itself is effed :shrug:
 
Its not exactly the same every shot either..sometimes thinner.. maybe even not there.. hard to tell on light shots

Yes..when testing the lens today this is when i saw it. I accidently under exposed (as you do hehe) and saw it... however I went back to the whieghtlifting pics as they havent been edited yet.. taken day before went to canon and they are on there :(
 
just loking at backup unedited pics.. found some in april with same:(

i crop 99% of my pics so hadn't noticed before as crop is first action in my post process..

Well yeah, lol, seems like that part of the image is more exposed though, so may the shutter does not get up to speed as it starts or stops correctly, i'd suggest testing the shutter at different speeds, shoot something that it can be easily seen, whats it like on a long exposure of say 5 seconds, I'd shoot a dark coloured wall if possible on a long exposure
 
took a shot at 6 second exposure... nothing... upped to /500th and its there... same shot apart from shutter speed
 
very fast shutter.. same line..no wider..exact same as above example
 
See, to me it looks like the shutter is taking twice as long to cover that part of the sensor, on a long exposure it won't show, as an extra 1/500th as an example on that part of the image in a 6 second exposure won't matter.

Cant send it back for two weeks (too much indoor work).. its 9 mths old so still in warranty... it works ok apart from the line..seems to have been like that since at least april.. if not longer :(
 
From my 'limited' knowledge - if it were a shutter issue (and feel free to correct me from anyone else that knows more) then an increased shutter speed would show the issue more prominently - whereas you say it's the same no matter the speed above a certain level... So I'm not sure it's the shutter..

nothing shows on a 6 second shutter.. but 1/500 to 3200 samey but would say more prominant on highest shutter.. but higher iso so .. the size of the line not different..

The speed that the curtains move is constant whatever shutter speed you use. I'd guess that the second curtain is bouncing when it hits the end stop.

do you know what the effect when shooting would be apart from the line.. anything else?
 
If it is a quick bounce of the second curtain then I can envisage any other symptoms, Tony.

n i neva said anyfink about shutters.... :p

Does look like that second curtain bouncing back up marginally. a 6 second exposure wont show it just becuase that fraction of a second extra on top of 6 secs isn't going to make any difference, but at 1/500th, that fraction again is much more significant.

Get back to them as soon as you can afford to be with out it...
