Hey

For home studio photography is it essential that i will need a light meter

if so can you recommend a nice cheapish one as i don't have £100 to spend on one

thanks

Karl

for digital photography, not essential at all. many people shoot, chimp and adjust. some people will reply and say yes, it is essential..but it isn't. it's up to you whether you can do as above by using your camera light meter or an external piece of equipment to do the same thing.

The so called time saving you supposedly get by using a seperate meter is negligable, if it really exists.

I can see there being a need for one if you are going to be using multiple lights, if you need to get ratio's correct, but if its a one light job then the histogram would do just fine..

You don't need one, but...

One light, don't bother; two lights, it's handy; three lights, makes life a heck of a lot easier to get everything balanced up.

But even after using a meter, the most accurate way to set the final exposure is off the LCD/histogram/blinkies.

i'd like to have a meter too. cheapest i have seen is the sekonic 308
