Light Meter

Some advice please.

I have a Zeiss Ikon 'Nettar' medium format camera that belonged to my late mother. It's in full working order and I like to play around with real film once in a while.

I need a reasonable but not too expensive light meter. Any suggestions please.

Do you have a smartphone? If you do, and it's one of the supported models, there are a bunch of free light-meter apps you could use.

(The supported models return the exposure information when the app asks. Unsupported ones, such as mine don't return the required info)

I have a couple of Weston Master 111 meters, you could have one of those for a Tenner, fairly period for the Nettar.

David hope you don't get told off for putting that in. Lol. I made a similar comment on another thread a few days ago and a mod edited certain bits out with advice to have another read of the rules.

Interesting, didn't think of looking there. Do you find it/them reliable/accurate?

If the model of phone returns the required exposure info, then the app should be as accurate as the phone itself is in taking a photo. People in F&C seem to be very happy with the results from an iPhone, for example. Watch out for apps giving readings from the light sensor that regulates the screen brightness of the phone, though. Those things aren't accurate at all.

Something like a Gossen Sixtino or a Western Master (as mentioned). I'd use colour print film to begin with as the exposure latitude is a little on the friendlier side

Thanks Peter, currently I've a six pack of Kodak 120 film 200ASA sitting in my fridge. I'll look at those meters and the phone apps mentioned.

I know what you mean, playing with imaginary film just doesn't give the same results as real film.

Got myself a Weston Master V with all the extras off a dealer on FleaBay this morning.
