As per the title, I am just playing around with a look/feel for a website. I want to ensure a constant theme from screen to printed portfolio though and printed pics always seem to look best on a black page...

But it looks a bit morbid for the website...

I'd go for dark out of the two.. If someone's monitor is a bit over zealous - the white will be hard to look at for any period of time :)

Dark for me too, or you could get funky with CSS and offer both ;)

That is an option I'm considering... but I don't want to distract people from the main objective.

Any more votes people... 77 viewings and 12 clicks is pretty poo... I did a poll cos I thought it'd be easy for everyone.

While I do think many images look better on a dark background, I remember a few members saying that they have eyesight problems that make reading white text on a black background nearly impossible (I'm sure there's a medical term for it), and couldn't actually use the sites. Something to bear in mind, as if the bride has this issue you might be losing out on business!

I must admit I did vote for white as it fits more with wedding's although I do agree that the dark background offers more contrast and creates a more striking image.
Why not look at an off white or cream?

I'd go for white as it is associated with weddings....but i'll have to vote dark, as i seem to see more dark sites than white..

mine is brown lol

Have you considered trying a version on 40% grey?

This is popular for presenting design work as it affects the aesthetic qualities of the imagery much less than white or black.

Just a thought!
