Yes
Does there have to be mist for light rays to show themselves, to make it happen in a photo ?
It's something i have been looking for and it made me realise that it can't be evident as just light alone.

There has to be something to reflect the light back to you. Mist/ fog or smoke.

I've often wandered if you could make use of a smoke bomb to create your own photo opps?

This sort of thing

Not sure how to recreate it but i think it maybe due to pollen in the air.

i noticed in the bathroom after i showered this morning that the light was coming in through the sides of the roller blind on the the window, sharp as you like where it came in and spreading out as it got further from the window. i could see the light bouncing off the steam moving round the room so i'd assume mist/dust would be needed in the forest.

maybe keep an eye on the weather and get an early start some morning when the conditions look right.

that pic looks assume by the way

slight mist, low angled sunlight ie not too long after dawn. You have to be looking in to the light.

All you need are

1. Some sun
2. A mahoosive smoke machine
3. A California Sunbounce reflector
4. Mothman.

All the smoke in that picture is man made - we were doing smoke effects for a fashion shoot.
