Lightfield cameras?

So whatever happened to the Lightfield cameras that were going to make all our kit obsolete?
They were all over the internet a few years back & they seem to have just faded away & vanished :tumbleweed:
 
We had a demo of a Lytro Illium at our camera club a few years ago - by the UK agent.
Initially, viewing via a digital projector, the results looked fine, and the technology seemed amazing.
However, as soon as we started asking questions, about pixel count and resolution etc and the ability to print at, say, A3 they became very defensive. They would not use the word pixel but, instead used some made-up technical word to cover up the fact that they would be useless for "real" photographs. Give them their due, when pushed, they admitted that they would be no use to traditional photographers wanting to make decent sized prints.
Seem like it was a technology seeking a practical application - shame really.

I believe Lytro has gone under
