ok.... currently ive got a canon 1000d body with an add on (shoe mount flash), getting some fairly decent shots- but after better ones......


i recently thought about geting a seperate tripod and flash units, and/or even using my existing one ive got currently, but getting them all linked up and synchronised so lighting is coming from different locations etc is a complete mystery for me....

i purchased a remoter shutter (although ive since returned it as found it was incompatible with 1000d) and am somewhat at a loose end..... many places sell remote kits that go on the hotshoe, and say they work (but all have mixed reviews) and this if working will also limit my lighting synchronisation if indeed its possible using this camera

could anyone shed some light on this if you've had similar probs, or am i just missing something simple???

Buy a couple of RF-603s. Flash fits on one, the other goes on the camera.

Get the flash on a stand and perhaps use a shoot through brolly to get some nice soft light. The RF-603 will fire the flash remotely in Manual mode. A light meter may be a useful addition so you get the exposure right.

the kit mentionned is quite similar to what i had and subsequently returned, as it didnt work as initially planned..... im unsure whether it didnt work due to human error / was a faulty item hence not working / or just not compatible with the 1000d...

im thinking more research is required, and is not going to be a quick fix afterall...
 
or might even be compatibility with flash issues, although i couldnt get remote to release shutter at all either....

the flash ive got isnt canon branded... back in may i refused to pay multiple hundreds on a flash gun as didnt think i'd get quite so hooked, so ive currently got a Jessops 360AFD Digital Flashgun for Canon
 
You might benefit from investing in a copy of "Canon Speedlite System Digital Field Guide" by J.Dennis Thomas. You'll find used copies on Amazon for around £5-6 and new about £11.
It's a little outdated in that the Canon flashguns it talks about exclude the latest versions but all the concepts are still valid (even for your AFD360). It's not heavy going and should give you a good overview of how to move forwards.

have found out now that the flash unit seems to be uncompatible with my expectations....

could anyone recommend some relatively inexpensive flash units that are 'slave' compatible by any chance??
