lighting kits

Need more info Amy, and maybe re-post in the lighting section.

What do you mean by portable? A flashgun, or three? A battery operated studio outfit? Or just some lights that you can transport easily?

The difference would be the power output, although there MAY be other differences but i shouldnt think there was that much else..

Have a look at the Bowens website and have a look at the spec on both.

where is the best place to buy the kits online ?
for quality and money value ? x

Well, if you have the money go for the higher power as you can always turn the power down...

I'd have a look at Warehouseexpress for value and good service. Can't fault them on any purchase I've ever made with them.

As an alternative the Lencarta safari range is popular though I haven't tried it (can't fault the mains ones that I have though).

I will still be ble to plug the travel ones into mains power though wont i ....

Amy,

Yes you will be able to power them from the mains and use the travel pack.

Have a look at Calumet on ebay, they are open to bids might be worth a bid 10-15% below the advertised price, I have done this a few times myself.

im looking at the 400/400 gemni kits but they are like 900 something pound..!!! phoaw

have you got a link for the ebay thing...

And anyone know of any lighting where ill be getting the same quailty as im asking for a bit cheaper?

Cheers x

Groups or individuals?

If you are thinking individuals then you might save yourself a bit of cash (and weight lugging) by going down the 'strobist' route. Even small groups can be covered without 'big' flash although you do lose a bit of control imo.

i should think i would be doing groups aswel, think im buying off calumet now... if my 500d doesnt have a sync hole .... what do i need to get in order to use the lights with the camera....
some sort of trigger but whats the name so i can look it up ? x
i sound sooo thick ... but i normally use natural light for everything... lol

One of the Canon people will need to answer the sync question but a radio trigger (pocket wizard, radiopopper etc) would do it and they just mount onto the flash hotshoe - can be pricy though.

Seriously - consider using a couple of speedlights and see if you get what you are looking for. I have to say that mine get more use than the studio lights simply because they are much easier to use when out and about.
