lighting umberella?

I have some small and basic photography lights that my wife bought and have been allowed to use them,they don`t have umberellas/reflectors and my question is would i be better off making some kind of reflector/umberella for them ? i plan on using them for portraits of wife/daughters family

You can pick up brollies for a five each off eBay from HK. Probably cheaper and easier than making some..

Thanks Neil, another question there are two normal lights and one spot light ,how will the spot light be used ? as an uplighter or back light perhaps?
