I was considering upgrading my editing software from Elements 6 to Lightroom 4 but believe it does not support RAW files from a Canon 5D MK 2 (not sure about the 7D, my other main camera). Can any one shed any light (no pun intended) on this and is there an easy fix.

Cheers in advance:thumbs:

Lightroom 4 works with a 7d definatly! I use it myself....

Thanks for the quick replies.

I read a review (the only one for LR 4) on WEX Photography web site where the guy said he had to download some file to get it to recognise 5D MK II RAW files, so I was a bit confused/concerned before I shell out

Cheers Brash!!!!

Are you sure it wasn't 5D MKIII, I think there was some issue with those.

Lightroom 4 looks nice, but I bought a student edition of LR3 as I was doing some postgrad stuff at the time.... can't let adobe know I'm no longer a student, or else I'll probably end up being collared for the upgrade to LR3 full before I go LR4...

still, 3 meets my needs nicely. Having mac and PC, I no longer use any software that isn't cross platform.

Adobe will quite happily let you upgrade a student and teacher licence of LR 3 to a 'full' version of LR 4. Same with Photoshop or anything else. It's buried in the Adobe FAQ somewhere if you want to hunt for it, but I certainly had no issues when upgrading.

Lightroom 4 is an excellent piece of software :) It definitely supports the 5D MKII and the 7D as others have stated above.
For me, it is worth every penny, and I no longer use CS4 as LR4 does most things for photographers. There are times when Photoshop is needed, but for my needs, I like to get my shots correct in camera and then only use adjustments in LR4.
I would recommend that you do a short course on it though to understand how good it actually is and how quickly you can get away from the computer :)

thanks for that - couldn't find the reference in the FAQ's myself with a cursory look. So, £60 upgrade to LR4 boxed from adobe UK looks very tempting indeed...

Thanks every one. I'll go and get a copy of LR4, very soon;)

Brash, I'm sure you realise anyway, but LR and PSE are not the same thing at all; LR is not an upgrade to Elements. It has quite a different purpose, though there is of course some overlap.

Yeh, thanks I know but I don't use layers and that kinda stuff very often for my bird, wildlife and macro stuff. I just need something that processes RAW files well and has decent NR capabilities, as well as the usual tweeks. From what I've read LR4 is the tops for this. If push comes to shove, I may get whatever is the latest version of PSE at some point down the line.

Cheers again. Brash!!!!
