Lightroom and tethered shooting problem!

Hi
Hope someone can help me with this.... Using Lightroom on Win 7, all was working well but if I took a break for a few minutes the shot didn't appear on screen. The camera had taken the shot but LR seems to go to sleep. So I had to faff around waking it up before each set of shots. Is there a way round this?
Second problem was well into the session camera kept on showing 'busy' and wouldn't shoot. I tried changing cards, turning off and on etc etc, the thing that seemed to work [unless it was coincidence was starting a new 'session/file' on LR.
I think I had took maybe less than a 100 jpegs before it stopped working, after I changed files it worked fine. Any ideas why this was please?

Cheers

How long is your cable?

I've had some odd issues like this - mainly with LR forgetting that the camera was connected. I was using a 5m cable which is about the limit of USB.

Switched to an active cable and it's never happened since.

The busy thing could also basically be a transmission problem as it tries to send the file.

As Jonathan says, there could be a problem if the cable is too long.
Have you tried re-booting your laptop? That has always fixed the problem for me - so far.

Actually you can go to 20m on USB if you use active repeater cables.

I have a vague memory that there is an auto down setting on the camera that disconnects communications after a preset time. I'm not in the office until Friday but I do remember this causing me an issue when I last shot tethered.

Worth a look, but my age prevents me recollecting where the setting is...

Yeah - that's why active are better ;)

The standard extension cable you'll see in shops is a 5m passive. Plug the Nikon cable into that and you're near 6m and I've found it flaky.

I'm actually not sure why they sell passive cables....

Hi,
Ta guys, yes is a 5mt cable. I will have a mess about but got another shoot on Saturday and don't want to be faffing around!
