Lightroom Panoramic merge

You can import as many as you want, but it will only merge images that it recognises as a panoramic series. If one image can't be merged its likely to not being recognised as part of the pano. You could try overlapping each image by at least 30% and make sure the horizons are level etc to give the software a better chance.
 
If I try to merge all four, it is the one on the left which doesn't appear in the preview, or the final merge. or maybe most of the left hand one. Is there a maximum width that it can cope with?

If I select only the three on the left, they merge perfectly.

it doesn't look like they need to be in the correct order L>R or R>L in the filmstrip for it to work properly.
 
Not really sure tbh. Landscape orientation shots i have only merged 3 shots iirc. I tend to shoot portrait orientation when i have a panorama in mind. I have stitched 9 shots before in Lr.
 
Not sure if this is relevant to your issue Jerry but...when I tried to merge a series of images in Lightroom CC it failed to merge them and the error message wasn't really helpful. However on another forum I asked about the erro I was seeing. It turns out that to merge images to a pano in LR it requires all of the images in the merge series to be at the same focal length!

I had previously merged the same series of images in PS, which; apparently isn't as fussy about focal length.

Mine are all at the same FL, but thanks for the suggestion. Was it Lightroom Forums you enquired in?
 
I've had problems with this too. Images I've successfully merged in other software just refuses to work in LR Photomerge.
 
I have found that Photoshop 6 (non CC) will merge multiple images that LR6 (non CC) won't merge. LR seems to need more overlap to work successfully!

My LR6 has failed on every set of Pano's I have tried. Gave up and carried on using the free Microsoft ICE (image composite editor).
 
Might not be relevant but I'm pretty sure older versions of LR had a maximum width of 10000 pixels which used to stop me importing some really big pano's stitched via PS.

I've a 20k pixel width image from 7 images, so (at least in some circumstances) they've upped the pixel limit from 10k pixels. That's of course not to say that there's no limit!
 
Lightroom and photoshop are just toys when it comes to panoramas.
better by far to use software like PTGui or PTAssembler. Which can handle any number of images in any orientation (even mixed) allow you to avoid objects or double inclusions, and output to a huge range of projections. As well as straighten horizons and make verticles verticle.

Lightroom and photoshop are very much take it or leave it as to what you get.

I'm sure I would be happy with the LR merge in this case, if only it would work!

Have a sneaky feeling even f the same focal length the area focused on needs to be constant so say you set 50mm and take 4 shots if one of them has a significant focus point it will reject i usually now select focus and go into manual for the lens
 
HAve you tried todays update? Although it is not fully recommended as it has other import and performance issues.

I understand it is available for LR6

While it is not the best Idea to shift focal length or focus between shots, unless focus stacking, or linking large blank skys. It is something any program based on Helmut Dursch's PT maths can cope perfectly well with. Provided the exif data is available .
Both PTGui and PTAssembler can focus stack, exposure blend and cope with focal length changes, all at the same time.
But perhaps not something for the feint hearted to try.
For good measure both will cope with considerable parallax problems, and blend and equalise poor colour and exposure differences.

I did a trial of PTGui several years ago and simply found that I could never get results in its place I bought AutoPano now that's an easy program. Now I just use Adobe as it keeps the merged image in DNG

'dot releases' are free updates so long as you have the current Lightroom version.
 
I presume that's what they mean. For example I got updates on Lightroom 5 up to version 5.7 before 6 came out.

Because HDR and panorama are features in LR6 already, we should get any bug fixes to these features (I hope).

BTW, you can add dehaze to LR6 as a user preset, but with fixed values (no slider). I have 10%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% preset values. Google how to do it.

I've had a very interesting reply from Jim Wilde on Lightroom Forums.

First of all he pointed something out that I hadn't noticed - that there was so much overlap between three of the images that one was superfluous! In other words I could do the merge using only three of the images.

He tried the merge using all four images and got a result using LR v6.2, which has just been released, as mentioned above. Apparently it has an improved photo-merge engine.

So I tried to do the merge using the three images and LR v6.0. It still didn't work. It just would not merge the right hand image with the other two.

I assumed that v6.2 would not be available to us purchase-outright users but perhaps I am wrong! I'll have to try that next.
