lightroom versus CS2

Well Lightroom could be described as "inferior" if talking about image manipulation. However, it is superior for picture cataloguing (as photoshop does not do this although bridge can).
So, it depends what you want to use it for. Lightroom can be used for most of the common picture adjustments needed for photography and is excellent at keeping track of your collection.
If you want to do more than adjustments and start editing/changing how a picture looks then use photoshop.
If you want to do both, use both :)

Lightroom does all I need, does it much quicker and sometimes even better. Rarely there are some things that need to be done in PS, but that is about twice a year (and I get trough thousands of photos a year)

Lightroom is very very different to CS in all honesty I hated it so upgraded to CS5 instead.

Adobe bridge comes with the upgrade to CS5, which also has a mini bridge embedded in it as well now.

I would consider upgrading your CS2 to CS5 its actually cheaper than buying lightroom.

Lightroom 3 - £232

CS5 upgrade - £186

A Year ago I would have said Lightroom is the devil and photoshop is the way to go, now I use Lightroom and photoshop together and cannot imagine not doing it this way.
As has been said before Lightroom was designed for photographers needs, (there are some things that you still need to use Photoshop for but its getting less and less) where as Photoshop can be adjusted to use for photographers ie Bridge.
Not tried Lightroom 3 yet but have used CS5 and like it very much, so if I could I would consider partnering these 2 products and Im sure you will be blown away with the results.

I use both, Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS3&CS4 (work/home). Two different products for two different things.
I use Lightroom for the initial import, cataloging, keywording and the majority of any adjustments needed like cropping exposure etc.

If it's then outside the remit of what I want to do in lightroom then it's right click, edit a copy with lightroom adjustments in photoshop. I find masking, layers, dodge and burn etc much easier in photoshop.

But really I couldn't do without both. If I had to have only one then it would be lightroom, but I'd really miss photoshop

i like photoshop as i have just about got my head round it.
i have never use lightroom, and understood it to be the inferior, but as i havent used it, i was asking the question which people prefer.
wifey doesnt like it.

me too...i got it free..from a friend that is
