Lightweight camera (either bridge or compact) with viewfinder advice?

My Mum has a perfectly good Canon DSLR, but would like a lighter option as an alternative for when she wants to travel light - so either a compact or bridge camera. Her main remit if that it has to have a viewfinder, so please advise on what you think would be suitable, working on a budget of maximum £250.

Bridge cameras tend to use tiny sensors in order to get the large zoom range in a compact lens assembly so she might not like the low light performance. How about a s/h Canon G series? If she's used to the quality of the DSLR then it won't be too much of a hit.

Canon G series looks very good and suitable, although she would like to buy new and they look to be a fair bit above her budget. Thank you for the advice though.

Any other suggestions welcomed!
