Seeking advice on a lightweight, small bodied canon dslr for use with my sigma 10-20,
Have been looking at a Canon 1000D but am unsure of its strength, is there aanything in the Nikon range that may be suitable, bearing in mind I already have Canon lenses ?

Why bother going for a Nikon if you already have Canon lenses?
The 100D will be considerably better than the 1000D too, none of the xxxD series are that heavy/big anyway. Id certainly rate all of them above the 1000D anyway.

Small and lightweight = 100D. It also has current sensor and processor. There is no DSLR smaller or lighter.
For a lot less money there is the 1100D which is still small and light but not as solidly made as the 100D if that is what you mean by strength?

Again I would go look at the 100D, it will do what ever you want it too and small.

No point looking at Nikon unless you are looking to buy new lens as yuors will not fit.

Budget is a couple of hundred quid

By strength, I mean strong enough to take the knocks, the 1000d seems a bit plasticky and feeble
This camera will spend its life rattling around in a rucksack !

Looks like the 100d is favourite up to now :-)

With a budget of a couple of hundred quid - I don't think you'll stretch to the 100 just yet.. As it's around £475-500 for the body.. Might be better to consider the used 450/500d's?

Yes, the 1000d is a bit plasticky but plastics are tougher than they feel. Doubt the 100D would last any longer if thrown in a rucksack but that is way over your budget anyway. If you just throw it in a rucksack it is worth getting a neoprene cover for it which velcros around and add protection without taking up room.

you can get a 1100d for about £270 new i use 1 there ok and can take a few knocks plus there not to big or heavy with a sigma 10-20 on it
