Lightweight small tripod, suggestions needed

I am looking for a tripod, but I have no idea where to start as never had one before.

I have looked at the Manfrotto 190XDB which looks quite nice, but what head options are there? Looking for something that ends up being very small & very light and if cheaper then even better.

It will mainly be used for time lapse shots and very occasional landscape stuff etc. Obviously I don't want to break the bank as it will have light use, but want something that is a decent as the super cheap (£10 specials) ones I have had before have been useless.
 
The Manfrotto while good, will be neither small nor light. Look at Benro travel angels.
 
Velbon Ultra Luxi range are very good, lightweight, fold up small and stable for their size, try to get one with the largest diameter legs you can, all helps keeping things solid
 
Have a look at the Velbon Maxi range too, I have the Luxi F and my daughter has the Maxi F, both pleased and excellent value for money

If you do get one and want to switch heads beware the tripod screw thread is 1/4" and might need the step up adapter thingy to 3/8" depending what you change to
 
The redsnapers are cheap but they are not light. If youcan live with it a ball head is much lighter than a Pan head.

Slik Sprint models may fit the bill though.
 
Make sure that whatever tripod you buy it can cope with the camera/lens combination you use.

Recently on holiday in the Alps I used my Travel Angel with a 5D II and a 400mm 5.6L to capture some mountain tops during the sunset.

I reckon there was sufficient shake during the exposure to make the images less than sharp. I was using timer mode.

When I used "mirror lock-up" there was some improvement but I didn't get any really sharp images until I switched to my infinitely heavier Manfrotto 055XB.
