I am in need of a lightweight tripod for my Sony A200 as I want to do more long exposure shots etc.

The one that I was thinking about getting is the Manfrotto 725B. What do people think of this one? Any other suggestions on a good lightweight travel tripod?

Also is there anyway of attaching a tripod to my Lowepro Slingshot 100 AW? As i don't really want to have to carry it around in my hands all the time when its not in use unless there is a way around this problem?

I've no experience of the 725B I'm afraid, being made by manfrotto I'm sure it'll be excellent I use a 190cxpro3 for travel stuff but being carbon they're not exactly cheap

I tried the 725B out in a shop. It is light and folds down to a small size, but did not seem very stable or anything like as well made as the more expensive Manfrotto tripods.

If you want a lightweight full size tripod that is stable and not likely to break, it means spending a lot more money on something like the carbon fibre 190 or better still a Gitzo.

Alternatively if you can live with a short tripod, then the Giottos GB1060 is light and stable. I have one and do carry it around as it is small and light. However its lack of height is limiting at times.

I've been looking for a lightweight travel tripod myself, I'm currently considering a Velbon Ultra Luxi M which seems to be a good compromise between size and weight but I have no experience with it yet. What do you consider light weight, how much weight will it have to support and what is your budget?

I have the manfrotto718B and I don't think its too bad. Light and compact and copes with my D90 and 70-200 f2.8, but I wouldnt walk away from it!!!! Not the first choice but does the job.

Velbon models are pretty steady, I use two at work myslef and think they good. Never took them for travel, but smaller models are good and very stable.....

Like most of the kit we buy, your tripod is something that you will not want to be thinking about upgrading if it has let you down because it isnt as steady as you would have liked. It is also probably one of the most important pieces of kit you will have, it is worth getting it right first time.

I would suggest that you visit a good photographic shop and try some out, try to chose one that gives you the height you want without the centre column extended, this will give you the most stable platform, take your camera/lenses and try them on the tripod, this will help you chose the head that you want too, but the main reason will be to see if there are any signes of camera movement when set up.

I have looked at the Manfrotto 190 series and the 055 Series, both are very good tripods, I settled for the 055CXPRO3 and this will probably do me for life.

Again what sort of budget have you set yourself for Tripod and Head?

I have not really set a budget as of yet, I am just wanting a light portable tripod that I can carry around for long exposures, landscape and night work, just not sure which.

Also how do you guys carry your tripod around? Thats the other problem I have got. The bag that I have is the Lowepro AW100 Slingshot and I dont think a large tripod will fit on it?
