Lightweight Tripod for Safari

My mum is off for a Safari Photo thing next year and I was thinking about getting her a tripod for Christmas.

It would need to be pretty light and simple to use with a quick release plate.
I've used Manfrotto most of the time so was thinking about one of those but there might be some cheaper/better options now days.
 
The current wisdom on safari is that a tripod is a bit big to use in/on vehicles, unless you are hiring a tour guide and vehicle on your own. Space just wont permit. Monopods are much better and even bean bags have their uses.
 
In vehicle, a beanbag (as Nigel has already said). For sunsets/rises and other out of vehicle use, a Giotos Vitruvian or similar (in carbon fibre). Not a particularly cheap option but weight is a major consideration for travel kit. To keep all my QR system compatible (Manfrotto RC2), I did fit a Manfrotto ball head to my Vitruvian but it was too heavy so I've refitted the supplied head for lightness. It's easy enough to change QR plates when the camera's to be used with other support systems and all the major manufacturers can supply extra plates for other cameras/lenses etc.
 
As I understand its a special photo guided safari as a relation runs the tours so i;d imagine there would be use for a tripod.

I might try and find her a semi decent tripod and maybe grab a beanbag as an extra little something for her.

Ive been looking at these as im after a lightweight option too. There gimbal doesnt look to bad either for my bigger redsnapper.
 
To be honest I dont think your mum will need a tripod, well she may for landscapes and night shots. its not like shes going to get out of the vehicle, :nono: :naughty: also its impractical to use one in a safari vehicle, bean bags are best,
