Linking d90 to handheld gps

I don't think you can link the Oregon to the Nikon directly.. but what you can do is just have the Oregon save your track (make sure the Nikon clock is synced with the time on the GPS!) and use a geotagging software to add the GPS data later based on the track & timestamps.

The software I use (forget the name, it's for the Mac) also adds things like city names and even road names based on the coordinates, right into the EXIF.

You wouldn't REALLY want the Oregon hanging off your camera anyway ;)

I'm off to the Everglades/Keys in November/December and will be taking my D90, i would like to link my Garmin Oregon 550t to do the same job as the Nikon GP-1 GPS Geotag Adapter Unit is it possible to do this and if so where would i find the connection lead?

Nikon cameras are only compatible with certain USB GPS devices. The GPS I had for the D200 was a standard GPS stuck into a small plastic box with a Nikon lead so it is not impossible.

Sounds a bit complicated? If you just leave the Oregon turned on, recording your track, you can download the track to the computer and the geotagging software will tag every photo automatically like I said. Takes under a minute for a full CF card when I do it (about 240 photos).

Some info from Wikipedia on Geotagging

GeoTagging photos is easy.

1. Synchronise your camera's time with your GPS. (N.B. Ensure your GPS has got acquisition)
2. Go for a walk with your camera and GPS. Set your GPS to record its tracklog and, with your camera, take photos.
3. Back home, export your track log from your GPS to your computer. (Not necessary if you use Geotag.
4. If necessary, convert your tracklog to a format suitable for use in photo-tracklog correlation software. (e.g.GPSBabel)
5. Transfer your new photos to your computer.
6. Using software (e.g. Geotag) correlate your photos with your tracklog.

If you use software like downloader pro from www.breezesys.co.uk it will link the timestamp from your exif file and match to the GPS - I'm told a handy hint is to photograph the the GPS showing the time - the breeze software can then do a "timeshift" if the time on your exif doesn't match the GPS
