One of my externals is a WD which has taken to near continuous disk activity since the Lion upgrade. It was particularly heavy, as expected, whilst spotlight indexed the one partition on the external that isn't excluded from indexing. Then it went quiet for a few days. Now it sits there chuntering away to itself.
