True, but having looked into how much a high spec loaded PC actually uses I've come to the conclusion that companies are just trying to "one up" each other (similar to the pixel race), instead of actually making things people need.:lol:

If it was a dual Xeon workstation with 13 drives then I would think differently.:)

indeed. even the poweredge servers at work only have 750w supplies :D

i thought there was something seriously wrong when i first came across a G5. but i was quickly told the heat coming out of it was normal lol

You Should see the 27 "iMac. Its designed to be a big, £1350 radiator. For its own components.

Northbridges generally run hot though. I think it's quite common for those things to hit 100 on some boards.:eek:

Did that about 15 years ago with an old Pentium computer and a fish tank full of vegetable oil. It works great technically but no way in hell do you want to keep putting your hand in that stuff.
There was a Liquid Bag cooling solution mooted years and years ago for cooling future pc's. It was small clear bags about 6 inched square full of some liquid and they would just be placed inside the pc. It worked great in tests but the price was prohibitive so it never got off the ground.

I built a computer a few years ago that was so quiet you couldn't actuall tell if it was on or off as there were no moving parts :thumbs: With the heat these things produce nowadays it is getting MUCH more difficult to get that silent feeling. With a PSU with no moving parts and water cooling using mahoosive but slower fans you can certainly get near to it. Strange how most people just go on about the speed from liquid. To me the sound benefit was more important :thumbs:
 

Yep done that one too. It worked for a while BUT it becomes un-upgradeable as all the sockets became full of oil and I couldn't get a good contact anymore :( It was ok as long as it was all working and nothing needed changing afterwards. I cut an ATX hole in the back of the fish tank for external connections and had the PSU separate. No way would I do it again :lol:
