I'm modding the machine I usually do post processing on, getting too loud and very toasty :D

I'm installing a LC system to cool and quiet things down a little :)

Anyways enough of my rambling here's some pics of work in progress

Isn't there also another method, where you use a non-conductive liquid and simply put the computer in a bucket of it?

I've done a bit more to the project today. installed the remaining water blocks.

I had to order some anti kink spring for the hoses as they have a tendency to kink, not a good thing :(

anyways here is the updated photo of the board

I had mine water cooled but didn't really find that much of a noise benefit to be honest (noise of fans pushing air through the radiator). What rad are you using? Closed loop or res? Doing the graphics as well?

I will be doing the graphics possibly end of the year, depending on whether I want do do SLI or not.

I'm using the XSPC Rad 120mm and a pump/res combo :) was thinking about a closed loop T line but it made more sense in terms of ease of maintenance/filling to use a res

Have you had any problems with tubes kinking?
 
I have a full Watercooling setup on my i7 rig. Best thing I ever did. Good luck with the project.

Don't have it set up now but didn't have any problems at the time. Having said that I was running two machines, a work one and a benchmarking one :bonk: I had the pump and return in a bucket so there wasn't any real pressure on the hoses. Also meant I could add ice when I was wanting to pump in silly volts :p

Any idea of the sort of speed / temps you used to get when using ice in the bucket? just curious :D
 
Haven't run it since the XP1600 and XP2500 Barton days. (when the 64bit AMD's came out I moved to them, blocks didn't fit and never got round to upgrading) IIRC low to mid 20's but I wouldn't swear to that. Didn't take too long to melt off though :p

Edit: just checked some old stuff and I found I had an XP1700 running stable at 2305MHz compared to stock of 1467. It booted at 2411 but wasn't really stable for anything other than office apps :lol:
 
Ok guys, a few more parts have turned up today and has allowed me to continue with the project.


The pipework is now installed on the motherboard :)




next item to sort out is the case, waiting for the rad at the moment. :)

Nice..

Last time i did NB and SB water gooling i made some interconnects from thin-bore copper tube to save the large loops. Its a little fiddly to do so, but the results are worth it :D
 
I've started work on the case installed the rad and res, I'm making some changes to the board pipe work to shorten it a bit.

Had to order a new CPU water block as one of the barbs had a hairline crack in it and the barb in question could not be replaced as it is molded on to the top half of the block :(

Hopefully will post some updated pics soon when the new block is installed :)

Hiya,

Sorted out the case, had to drill 2 holes for the tubes to fit through for the rad



The hose from the res/pump has got to be cut down installed it for now just for the pic :)



The case mod, holes for the tube, (duct tape had to be used to put round the sharp edge so the tube doesn't get cut. :D )



The overall finish, rear end of the case with the rad installed :)

Two of my PCs are watercooled, I use Zalman Reserators as they are silent :)
 
Interesting thread, will you be changing that Dyson for a Vax? :lol:

I still waiting for the replacement CPU water block at the moment :)

the last one had a hairline crack in it


sorted all the cables out in the case they now look tidy :)

found my bench power supply to plug into the pump, when the loop is completely assembled to leak test it :)

I had a Vax once but it got blown up :D

so the dyson will remain :)

I expect you'll be changing the pump/res soon. I had the XSPC one and unless they have improved the design (and it doesn't look like they have) it was a the weakest link. I moved onto a different pump and and aluminium cooling resovoir bolted to the top of my case.

Handy hint to make the airflow better cut the grille out of your rear fan exhaust and mount the fan flush to the case with a rubber square mount. You would be suprised how much difference the grill makes to the noise output when the fan is spinning right next to it...
 
my friend is dong networking and he's acquired a refrigerated cooling unit, apparently if it actually has gas in it can push -60 :O

tried it this week and could only get down to +4 :(

At the moment I need to get the system running before thinking about upgrading components, as I need to see in terms of bees and honey what I have left after the project is complete, especially if I want to do the graphics and go SLI :)

Great tip about the rear fan grille on the back of the case, definitely going to look into that, speaking of rubber square mounts I have a rubber mount that I've got to put onto the PSU to dampen vibration noise :)

ok guys almost complete :D




Motherboard complete i've shortened the loop hoses


and..........



The leak test which was successful :)


now the only thing I've got to do now is install the Graphics card, and other hardware, sort out the cable management

:)
 
I assume you left the last big loop to fit over the graphics card? Looks really good now with the shorter hoses, nice work
 
So now the moment has arrived its all finished :D

I've done that so if I do go SLI the cards will fit in place :)

Question, what heppens when you change your mobo, a complete set of cooling blocks? or are they adjustable?

good question, the cpu block and the northbridge block can be used on other motherboards, the south bridge and mosfet blocks are only for this board I think. :)
