Hello,

Coming from D200 and D2x I don't have any experience in using live view. So my question is whether a live view enabled camera (D300 in particular) will see through a ND1000 filter?

As I went through past threads I saw that the 5d2 does, but is it different with Nikons?

Thanks :)

Depends on the speed of the lens - my d700's live viewcould see through a 10 stop filter with a 20mm f1.8. Although it struggled on a 24-70 f2.8.

I would guess the d300 would be similar

Thank you, Dan. Anybody else to share?

I am into strong nd photography and can't decide whether the liveview on the d300 will be helpful

Live view is great regardless of using it for long exposures or not, IMHO it's very underrated, I use it all the time for tripod work it's just so much easier than peering through the viewfinder at certain heights/angles...it's also useful for focusing, particularly using selective focus points. You have slight vision through it with a 10 stop but not really enough to compose your shot correctly, much easier to compose and add the filter afterwards
