I have a yen to do some early rises now that autumn is heading in fast, misty forests, low cloud over hills, sunrises etc, but need some location advice from you good people.

So, if I wanted somewhere within say an hours drive from the northerly most reaches of London [A1/M25 junction for reference, sort of london/Herts border], somewhere that doesn't require parking the car then hiking for an hour uphill, but an easy-ish walk is acceptable, where would you suggest? Any special locations, local secrets, hidden gems?

As I siad earlier, could be totally cool woodland, a hill with a view, a bubbling brook, whatever. I definately need to improve my landscape photography, so now I am armed with a set of ND filters and a lighter weight tripod, want to get out there and start shooting.

Satnav or google earth information doubly helpful

Funny thing is I'm surround buy waterfalls, stunning mountain scenery, miles and miles of rolling hills, hidden mountain lakes, stunning mountain rivers and streams, labyrinths of natural stone, villages and people that time forgot and the list get bigger.

Love living here but hate landscape photography, love city street photography, fancy a holiday swap.

your not that far from the south downs.. chichester for example.. ( i think) or pompy.....rather sad idea from me but that is about as good as it gets not knowing that part of the world that well

Yeah I know but looking for more specific locations as not knowingthe area, one could be hunting for hours, even days, and never find the good bits. Fine if you are on few days break, but I need to get there and back preferably in the same half of day, or not far off ;)

Dobbs Weir in Hertfordshire is nice. big pool there and you can park in the pub car park just over the hump back bridge and walk to the weir.

Dobbs Weir

I once saw a Pike swim out of the reeds and take a Roach in one gulp there. Happy days.

Oh and there is a really nice pub there for emergency refills of JD bottles

mi casa es su casa :)

I was thinking of running some sort of Pyrenees photographic tours, go and goggle Ariege and have a good look around, you won't be disappointed.

I'd noticed on the website that they are all close together and rye house gathouse looks like a worthy visit.

 Even I knew it was a studio, just wasn't sure about the place as a photographic location, though I imagine its probably pretty secure. :gag:

could be closed as well as the film industry moves around
pinewood is another studio which the british industry ruled the world from
there is another at wembly...think its small..its lee lightings pad.

again i apologise for being so flip...really if i knew the area i would be more than glad to advise or offer suggestions..
