Next week I'm on a job down in St Austell and shall have two evenings free. Rather than do nothing I would like to get the chance to do some beach/cliff shots. I also have an ND9 filter I would like to use.

Can you suggest any nice points within a 20-30 minute radius of St Austell?

If I'm not careful I could easily waste my limited time driving round looking for places.

Thanks

You could drive about 15 mins down the road to Mevagissy, to Pentewan village. Old harbour, and long ( private ) beach just past the now disused lock gates. Some cliffs but I suspect the light may not be in the right palace but worth a try. Beach belongs to Pentewan Sands Holiday park, but a lot of Coastal path walkers use it. Parking in Pentewan is a bit hit and miss. There are a couple of car parks, but not large ones. If you spot a space use it.

Ship Inn is the local pub, good food and good atmosphere.

Alternatively go on for another 10 mins to Mevagissey. Traditional fishing village, with some rocks/cliffs at the outer harbour. Park at the top of the town, and walk in ( about 5 mins) .

Several good pubs .Check out The Ship ( there always a ship inn near a harbour :) ) or the Sharks Fin

There are loads of great places in Cornwall, unfortunately they may be further than your 30 min limit. Bedruthin Steps and Constantine Bay on the north coast are excellent locations, but it'll than you more than the 30 mins you have allowed. The waves on the north shore tend to be more dramatic as well.

There are some dramatic cliffs along the coastal path around Porthsactho, again further than your 30 min limit. Plus you need to be at sea level for the best effect.

Another location is Prussia Cove.

Not easy to find and very limited parking ( 40-50 Cars Max ) but stunning location with the tide in or out , But well outside your range. There are loads of others, but as you only have a couple of days and limited time available it may be difficult to go further afield
