I recently developed a kodak verichrome pan film which had been sat in a Kodak Bantam camera for many years with 2 shots already exposed.

The results are the two b&w images in my gallery.

The over exposed image looks to show 2 Morris Minor cars in the background along with another car ( I don't know what make!)

I'm figuring these may help give some idea as to the decade in which these photos were taken taking into account that to my knowledge verichrome pan became available in 1956 ??

As for the location, I have no idea ...looks possibly like some sort of country park. Maybe the building gives a clue? I'm presuming England going by the cars!

I am simply curious as to the history...any help much appreciated.

Oddly enough, the giveaway might not be the cars.. the llama carts were a feature of London Zoo in Regents Park and the chap in the (almost certainly) brown coat looks like a zookeeper. If the buildings could be matched to known buildings, that would confirm my theory.

as you may have already guessed I'm not really up on how to use this forum ....I was told by another member that my pics could be viewed if i uploaded them into my gallery on here.....

Asha I think we would need to see the photos to have any chance of helping!

WOW well there is a superb start ....Thank you!

Any further help / confirmation would be super.......London Zoo is one of many places I have never visited so I have no idea of the buildings in the area...perhaps someone else does??!

Thanks Alastair...how did you do that ??!! (putting my pics up like that!)

The plot thickens......You have both got me doing searches on all three places !! keeps me occupied !! lol
Perhaps IO'm a little sad but to locate and date the pics is an area of photography that fascinates me

The llama cart at Chessington can be glimpsed on this clip and Whipsnades llama cart in this clip.

I'll stick with Regents Park at the moment, although I can't find a building that matches for the 1950's yet.

Don't suppose any of you guys fancy a visit to whipsnade to try get a photo of the building from a similar angle to the one I have.......it increasingly looks like it could be that zoo.

I'd go myself simply out of curiosity but its a fair day out from where I live !!lol

Hmm, it's about an hours drive from me. maybe in the near future I could have a look.

WICKED!!

omg i sound like a 12 year old ...sorry! lol

Whilst I'm here do you have any idea what make the dark (black) car is in the other photo ....I figured that the other two are morris minors?

Ok.. I've changed my mind and agree that it's Whipsnade. I've found the building on GM (link) and I can see that from the rear it has the projecting wing with chimneyed gable, and a cluster of lower buildings surrounding it that match the scene.

Yes the layout does appear to match.....the clips made for interesting viewing too.....i love to watch old filmetc like that. thanks

It looks like some kind of long wheelbase open back truck.

Well spotted!

I hadn't studied it enough to notice the open back, mindst you i am due for an eye test!! lol

Hi

Can't help with the photos, sorry, but I really enjoying this thread - I think it shows the power a photograph / photography has

I really hope you manage to work it out and even better, was able to get a new upto date shot from the same place to see the difference time has made...

Do you know who the little one is ???

Asha, it may be possible to see more if you will allow the image to be edited - I see you have your `edit` wotsit turned to `please don't edit`

How do I change that "wotsit"??
I don't mind anyone editing if it helps to make a more positive identification.

LYes this thread appears to have attracted a fair amount of interest.....pretty cool to see other members have as much passion as I do at trying to pinpoint places and dates to old images.
To be able to compare with a modern shot of the same location will be very interesting...already had one possible offer from another member of visiting whipsnade to get a shot.....Cool !
As for the youngster in the pics...i have no idea who he is. I bought the bantam camera on ebay UK which arrived already with the film already in place and the first 2 shots exposed.
I was thinking that perhaps his dress code may help with dating the photo too??

You're welcome :) Am looking forward to seeing what you manage to find out.

Me too!! lol

I wonder wether it would be worth contacting Whipsnade zoo to see if they would offer help in confirming/ dating the image as presumably they would have records of when the grounds looked like they do in the photo.
Just an idea!....thoughts anyone?

A bigger file/higher res scan would probably reveal more - and give a better result - but these may help:

Just to add a little light not to the thread ... the Turkey on the left, looks like the one we had for Xmas back in 1955.

Having looked at them I think the middle vehicle could be a VW Beetle.

LOL......It did well to get onto this film then seeing as verichrome pan wasn't produced until 1956!!! ....

You're thinking of her grand-mother, it was tragic how both her squint and the bandy-legs were inherited after they'd skipped the inbetween generation.
