I'm looking for some help really, I have a logo which someone has kindly sent to me for use as a jpg, but I want it with a transparent background, currently it has a white background.

Is there any way I can change the background from white to transparent easily?

I have photoshop with which to do so...just unsure of any process which would allow me to do so!

Thanks

Open pic in PS. Select magic wand, click the white background. Press delete to remove the white. Now the background should be shown as transparent. Go to "File -> Save As" and choose a file format that support transparency (GIF, PNG etc) Voila.

You'll save yourself a lot of hassle if you can get the original file from the designer. It's pretty tricky, if not impossible, to make all of the background transparent while keeping quality at the edges.

Otherwise, if the background is white just use it as-is with the layer set to Darken.

It almost works, thanks. I just don't get a transparent colour I get whatever colour is on the colour picker... I'm using a Mac if it makes any difference

I'm sure you can use bagic eraser to erase certain colours but I'm no ps expert or post the logo here and I'm sure someone will help

Yes, that is an option, maybe that's what I need to do.

If I can get a file from the designer then I will, it's not likely *** - he did it as a real favour for me to be honest! I don't want a dark background, that's not really an option :)

Well what colour is the background of the logo then? If it's white then set your layer to Darken; if it's black then set your layer to Lighten.

Edit: I read the original post again. White it is. Drag it on top of wherever you're using it and set to Darken. Try it.

Here is the offending article if anyone can shed any light on the best way...
