Hi,

I have been reading threads this week on here and have found out alot of hints and tips to improve the way i take my photos etc.

I was hoping someone would be able to advise me how and what is the easiest way to create a logo for my website i am currently trying to build.

I don't want anything that fancy

Photoshop! Play around with fonts, colours, themes, ... until you've got what you want!

You can save it pretty much in any format, but JPG would probably be the most common way. Just watch the filesize it's too huge.

If you want to make it so that it upsizes, downsizes and transfers to other media, you're better with a vector format, eg. png allows for transparent backgrounds too.

I would agree, save as png with transparent background, can also be utilised as a watermark over the picture with the opacity changed.

I use this:

www.dafont.com

you can type in your text so every typo comes up. Be careful as some fonts are copyrighted for commercial use.

When I teach students, I tell them the things to think are:

would this look as good on a stamp as on a billboard.

"Funky" Fonts go out of style, classics never do.

2 Colours max

Will it work on black and white backgrounds

Look at what your competition is doing, then try to do it better.

If your competition's colour scheme is muted/vibrant/primary etc. then you may want to go the same way.

Remember this will go on a website, letterhead, business card, compliment slip, photo watermark at the minimum, so make sure you try it on all formats before you finally decide.

Try to generate alternative ideas, from them choose 2-3 to develop and then your final one will shine through.

Make sure you are 110% happy, as changing a logo is not really an option when you have laid out the cash for stationary, also it looks bad.

Lastly. If you use Times New Roman anywhere in your design, YOU WILL FAIL.

For the technical side, there are many tutorials out there that can do it better than me.

Hope that is help you can take something from.
