I have just read a news item regarding the release of a captive Orca in Miami. 'Lolita' was trapped 50 years ago and spent those years as tourist attraction in a small pool. A deal has been struck that should see her released back into the wild within 2 years. Whilst initially I thought this was fantastic news, having thought about it I wonder how the cetaecean will adapt to her new life, being an apex predator that would normally be part of a family group? would she be immune from oceanic diseases that she would not have been in contact with whilst in her aquarium?
