Decided to go up to London for the day some point this week, and want to know some good locations to get some shots.

Obviously we have have the usual Big Ben, Tower bridge, etc... but does anyone know of any interesting places to go? or maybe different views of the popular spots. would quite like to get high, so anyone know any places i can go for those kind of shots?

Thanks in advance

If you head up Camden Lock you can have a wander round the markets which is always interesting, then take a 5 minute walk over to primrose hill which is about the best view of the city you'll get from ground level :)

Map there...you can walk across the bridge on Regent's Park Road, rather than going all the way round as Google Maps doesn't know footpaths.

Then you can stroll down through Regent's Park, pop into London Zoo if you want to shoot some animals (or you can actually see a fair few from footpaths around the zoo if you've a long lens ;)).

If you want to go high unless you live or work high up I think it's fairly difficult. however there are some good vatage points - some of which unfortunaley will cost you

1) Moument - 380 steps I think to the top, its just reopened having had a bit of a clean - not sure what photo ops are like though haven't been up there

2) Tower Bridge, go on the experience across the top (it was about £8 last year), great panoramic views east and west, althought there are a few obstacles in the way

3) Tate Modern upstairs in the resturant, also there's a viewing platform half way up

4) London eye - although glass is a bit of a challenge

5) Top of St Pauls

You used to be able to go up the BT Tower, Canary Wharf and London City Hall but all have now ceased either becuase of terrorism or cost. Some of these may be open on the 19th September though when its London open House weekend.

Kensington Roof Gardens will give a good view of south London. Have lunch or dinner there. Great food but a bit pricey. There's another roof garden on the top of The Trafalgar, just opposite the Canadian Embassy on Trafalgar Square.

George.

Just thought it might be easier getting low down than high up for something a little different. There are loads of steps down to the river all the way along the Thames that could give you some interesting angles on standard land marks. Just the otherside of Tower Bridge (east side on the south bank) there's an allie some steps that go up and then evetually go down to the beach there.

Your going up to London and didn't invite me

Im never speaking to you again ;)

feel free to come mate, but you have to go round some very boring museums that my mate wants to visit as well :)

The Thames tide is out in the afternoons at the mo ...fully out about 1.30pm onwards ...in again around 7pm

Loads of beach access, it may not be obvious though, It is also legal to simply climb down the steel access ladders.

Careful of the deep mud areas.

I looked at those at the meet, problem was they ended in a big puddle and sludge.

In that case I think ill pass:).

On advice on what to photograph I would stay around the centre area so you get more in. Go the the banks at bank station- Lloyds is a must, its a crazy building built inside out, I have a couple pics of it on my site in the landscape section. Camden is a great start if you want to potograph people aswell.
