Astrophotgraphers use bulb and very long exposures and take lots of them for eg, a 5 min exposure and up to as many as 20-30. They do this many nights...
I've run a series of 20 minute exposures with only 10 second pause in between each image, about 2 hours worth. No problem what so ever. If you have liveview on, then the amp remains on in the camera and that will cause the heat to show up in the image (Amp glow) but the 450d turns the amp off for long exposures... I think my longest run, was about 6 hours of 6 minutes exposures each, only a 10 second pause between each shot (no in camera noise reduction)... never noticed a problem.
