Quicky: Do only certain cameras do really long exposures Eg. 5 mins+? Im keep to have a bash at it but im not sure my camera is capable, the longest i can get is 30 seconds!

Remote shutter release are good things to have to reduce shake on pressing the shutter button on camera. I bought a phottix one off ebay which comes with a remote and small plugin thing that dangles from the side of the camera. All you do is hold it down for 3 seconds then you can lift your finger off the remote and press it again to finish the exposure. All for around a tenner iirc, bargain!

Thanks for the replys! Im investing in a cable release now!

When the shutter is open for long periods of time is it sensible to clean the sensor etc after? Or doe's it mot effect it...

Good question.
No more dust will be in the chamber than would be the case for a fast shutter speed.
However the sensor is more susceptible to any dust in the chamber the longer the sensor is exposed.
Bottom line .............. I wouldn't worry about it and always check your sensor before an important shoot and clean if necessary.
