Long lens bag

I'm looking for a long lens bag so I can keep the lens hood facing forward and the camera ready to use. Currently I use a thinktank glass limo but it fits the 200-400 f4 and gripped d800 with the hood reversed only. It's an excellent bag but I end up carrying the camera by hand over long distances and the bag usually stays in the car boot.

The camera, lens and hood is 53cm long.

So far I've found:

  • Tamrac super telephoto lens bag (internal dimension is 53cm so very close)
  • Benro falcon 800
  • Lowepro Lens Trekker 600AW

A backpack with a top/front opening would be ideal as I would only need to put the base on the ground. Does anyone else use a backpack with the 200-400 with the hood facing forward and a gripped DSLR?

Have a look at what Kinesis might have to offer too. I have a couple of their long lens cases and they're excellent quality.

Think tank make long lens bags.... Glass taxi and glass limo spring to mind. Going to have a look at one myself at the photo show.
 
I did a thread a long time ago listing loads of long lens backpacks, might be worth doing a search for that. I went with a backpack from a little known maker called MrJanGear. I have my Nikon 600 in it, Sigma 120-300 f2.8, 2 professional bodies, memory cards and batteries and it still fits in the cabin of most airlines.

I looked into f-stop as like the idea of the removable ICUs. The largest ICUs (xl pro) is only 45cm long as it's too short unless the hood is reversed.

I already have the ThinkTank Glass Limo, it's an excellent bag but not long enough to have the hood facing forward. The internal dimension is 47cm which is perfect for the 200-400 with hood reversed (45cm long). If it was only 8cm longer it would be the perfect bag to have the 200-400 ready to shoot.

There is a good review of the glass limo here. I would like to do the same as the 300mm f2.8.

It looks like the older lowepro pro trekker 600 would do the job but it's a larger bag than I would like. I was thinking I only want to fit the 200-400 and DSLR, no other lenses need to be carried.
