I currently have a D60... really wanting a D90, but struggling to raise that much cash, even for a second hand model.

Are there any cameras that are a step up from D60, pref with live view, in body motor etc. that are not as expensive as a D90?

I want something to start me off on my way to professional, and I feel like I love my D60 but have reached the limits of it.

£500 cheapest I've found.

Basically I can sell my D60 body for £200, and put £100 to, so I'm searching for something around £300 for the body only if its a nikon that I can use my D60 lens with... or I can sell my D60 with lens for £250, and then I will have £350 to spend for a body & basic lens.
 
I don't know if this is an improvement on your kit, but there is a pentax twin lens kit at currys for 389.
 
In what way do you feel you have reached the limits of the Camera?

TBH I would carry on saving as personally I do not think that you will get anything better for the budget you have..

Hi, please do not take this as being personal but what are your professional aspirations as far as photography is concerned?

The reason I ask is that you are looking to upgrade your camera to something 'more professional' but having looked at a number of your images I think you have a long way to go before a) you have reached the limits of your current camera and b) you are proficient enough technically and artistically to be able to carry off a professional career at the moment.

Buying a more advanced camera will not really help you at the moment and there are many professional photographers using a lot more basic equipment than you currently have, so it is not the equipment that is holding you back.

I am sorry if this seems harsh, but you would do so much better at the moment keeping your current kit, really getting to know it and learning more about photography techniques particularly composition and light, how each matter and can effect each other.

The other thing to be aware of, apart from technique, it is not really the camera that will make a difference to your images, but your lenses, and it may be worth thinking about upgrading or adding to them before you worry about changing your camera.

I agree, but my cash flow is very very low, and wellever I have a D60 lenses are more expensive for me because I need to Buy AF-S lenses, rather than just AF.

There are a number of reasons I wanted the D90, to include are the lens issues, video function and live view
 
What lenses do you currently have? What lenses would you buy if you had a D90?

There are some excelent AF-S lenses around for quite cheap, as there are quite a few expensive AF-D lenses.

Dont get caught up in the mindset where you think a better camera will make you a better photographer, it wont. Ive seen images on here from a D40 that blow away anything that Ive produced from my D700.

It is very encouraging to read posts like those above - well done.

Perhaps I am getting old but I find it very hard at times not to pepper several forums with "Victor Meldrew" like comments when I see all these "what shall I upgrade to" threads.
I can understand the young lad in Jessops trying to sell you the latest and most expensive XYZ123 DSLR - but I don't think it helps that so many people on here urge others to buy the XYZ123 for the sole reason that they have one, even though they don't really understand how to use most of its capability themselves; in fact, some seem to have difficulty in operating the on/off switch.

Funny you should say that..........

Earlier this year I went on a cruise and got friendly with a gentleman who was a professional photographer. He was interested in my Sigma 150mm - 500mm lens. He was looking at some shots I had taken with this lens on the screen of my camera - and zooming in on them.
He was making very favourable comments on what my 6mp D40 was producing (the camera - not the owner !!) when compared against his 24mp D3X.

Proves your point.......................
