Hi

Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Lens
Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Lens
Sigma 55-200mm f/4-5.6 DC
Nikon 50mm f/1.8 D AF

not going to go out and just buy them but was wondering if anyone has any and how good they thing they are

thanks

Hi Whitey, Hope your enjoying the D200. With regard to your options for lenses, the Nikon 50mm 1.8D is a no brainer. It's cheap. You'll get one on eBay for about £50. It's fast, good in low light and wont take up room in your bag. Can't comment about the Sigma's although the 28-70mm seems a good bet at f2.8.

Yeah definitely get the 50mm F/1.8. And the fact it AF on the D200 makes it a surefire winner. As for the others its up to you...depending on what you tend to shoot. The 28-70 F/2.8 sure does sound nice though.

A new 50mm is only £80 and even if you don't like it you'll get most of that back on Fleabay. I'd forget about the 18-200 and 55-200 Sigmas, A D200 will just magnify all of their failings. If you must buy a 55-200 try the Nikon VR version, it's about the same price as the Sigma, but be aware it was designed for the D40/x, not for a semi-pro body like the D200.

I'd be interested to know what a Sigma 28-70 f/2.8 is like though, I could do with something in that range myself

Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Lens - Not very wide on a 1.5x crop body.

Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Lens - Its a superzoom. Expect compromises.

Sigma 55-200mm f/4-5.6 DC - Would be better with the Nikon one.

Nikon 50mm f/1.8 D AF - Can't go wrong. If you can stretch it then the 28mm f/2.8 AF-D provides the closest to 50mm FOV on a crop body, that or the 35mm f/2.

I have the D200 with a 24-70mm F2.8, Its a cracking lens!
Well worth the buy. Cant comment on the 28 though.

D200 is fun yeah

just need my more memory to arrive lol

long term i am after the 12-24, maybe the 24-70 or 17-70 and maybe even swap my 100-300 for a 80-400 nikon

and even add a nifty fifty to the collection

A lens that is regularly overlooked instead of the 24-70mm range is the 17-55 f2.8 Nikon. Unless you plan to use it on a D3 (where a DX lens will give you a different megapixel factor), it is a great lens for wide work and portraits. Given it's around £700 instead of £1000 for the 24-70, I think it's very good value coupled with a D80/200/300.

got the lenses mixed up slightly in that last post, i meant the 28-70

other half wont be happy me spending that much on a lens lol
