Hey everyone, I'm looking at getting a compact digital cam to go in my pocket when our DSLR (Canon 400D) can't.

You lot were so great when choosing our DSLR that I wanted to ask your advice!

I've been looking at the Samsung ST1000 which looks awesome, anyone had any experience with it? Also the Canon IXUS 200 IS looks pretty good too, or is there one that stands out above all others that I'm missing?

Basically we're looking at up to £250/£300, touchscreen would be nice, decent quality screen (OLED would be great), fast response time, fits in my pocket, and obviously decent picture quality goes without saying.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks a lot,
-Ben

That Samsung does look totally gadgetastic doesn't it.

I've had a couple of Samsung 35mm compacts in the olden days and the lenses were always pretty impressive. In terms of electronics, they are also a top notch company, so it should be good.

I'm hoping so, it does have that too good to be true feel to it though, there are just too many compacts to choose from!

Panasonic LX3 rocks, or the TZ7 for zoom.

The LX3 has full manual, shoots in Raw and Jpeg and has F/2.0

The Fuji F70exr getting good reviews for its image quality. 10x optical zoom, 2.7inch LCD, all metal construction. Its the smallest compact with a 10x zoom.

Fuji doing £30 money back offer till the end of the month so can be picked up for around £140/150

Here are some reviews.

Thanks for the replies everyone, still swaying towards the Samsung ST1000 though.

Its mainly going to be used at parties/at the pub so I'm really not fussed about zoom, and the touch screen and wireless connectivities are a definite bonus.

If there isn't another compact with better picture quality that has a touchscreen and wifi I think this is the one for me.
