Looking for a good compact

looking for something small enough i can take anywhere, IQ most important but not the rx100 i'd rather buy a dslr for that money, top of the list at the moment are the fuji x20 and the canon g16 but maybe a csc ? any suggestions welcome thanks guys and girls,viewfinder a must.

Why not the rx100. Amazon had the Black Friday lightening deal on them at 292 on Monday. Seems a good price if they repeat it.

yes at that price worth considering, its gone up again now and would prefer a viewfinder
 
I can recommend the baby Xs from Fuji, having owned an X-10 and still owning the X-20 and XF-1. I have always preferred an OVF (or at least a to the eye VF) but if I had to choose between the two Xs I still have, it would be the XF-1 due to it's compactness. Slightly different handling and menus to the X-?0 but the IQ is the same as the marginally bigger brothers. All have raw capability but many users (see the massive X-10 and related threads in the equipment section) don't bother since their JPEGs are so good. Also have a couple of 1 series Nikons (V1 and 1AW) which are very good but not as compact as the baby Xs. The major advantage of the 1 series is that they can be used with F mount lenses (using the FT-1 adaptor) and with a 70-300 VR and their 2.7x crop factor, I can fill the frame with a pair of sparrows on the feeder. (Of course, the AW1 also has a fairly unique feature - it's an interchangeable lens waterproof camera.)

IF Currys have any left, they were knocking the XF-1 out for £200 - well worth every penny IMO (and much less than I paid a year ago!)
 
XF1s are back in stock at the Fuji Refurb shop - I just got one for £140 posted!
 
I personally would go for the rx100 even though its pricey.I dont think you would regret it. If not the rx how about the lx7,superb little camera
 
It makes me laugh how so many people say they want a "compact" small enough to take anywhere and then won't consider cameras like the Sony RX100, Lumix, FinePix F900EXR, which deliver high quality results and truly are 'compact'. A Canon G15, for example, might be a very good camera but it's hardly take anywhere anytime - It's not pocket size. I have done months of research and am about to get the Sony RX100 II - It might be relatively expensive but I'm serious about my photography. I'll have it on my trousers belt pouch even when shooting with a DSLR. I was an assistant today on an indoor shoot where the photographer (my daughter) was using a Canon DSLR on tripod etc and I grabbed 4 nice shots of her with my compact (FinePix F500EXR) and a close-up of a spider.

I have an X10 so I kind of know what I'm getting into. The XF1 is mainly for the family (and me sometimes) so I can have the X10 with me all the time.

I didn't say I wouldn't consider anything actually,just want specific things (if possible) and want the best iq for a walkaround without breaking the bank

No discernible difference between pics from the XF-=1 and the other baby Xs. The differences between the pics are that the XF-1 has (all focal lengths 35mm equivalent) a 25-100 zoom while the others have a 28-112 and all the XF-1 lacks is something to look through rather than at, although the rear screen is plenty useable in bright sunlight.

Many thanks bought one, at £140 I don't think you can go wrong, later on will get the xe1

Good stuff!

I'm loving mine, I think the user interface is great for a compact camera and I love a manual zoom.
 
Tested it out, will make a great take everywhere camera, used to be a canon man but changing to fuji, like what they produce and don't want the dslr bulk as much as i love them.
