I'm looking to get a 18-105mm to replace both my 18-55 and 55-300.
I'm not fond of switching to a longer lens when i'm just out of reach of that squirrel in the park.

So what do you think? I think a 18-105 would do fine for my needs at the moment.

Depends how far away that squirrel is ;)
If you want to use it for wildlife I think you'll find it quite limiting.
have a look through your shots and see what length the majority of your shots are at, that'll probably give you a better idea of what you need than we can :)

Not that far away... just out of reach... wish I could have some more focal length.
I'm not into lanscapes for now, as I'm mainly doing portraits and close ups, and the occasional long shot.

Would most people recommend trading in 2 lens for this 18-105mm lens? At the moment, my lens have no VR... which makes me want one.

Not sure how bad my photography is, but I've heard good things with VR, and I'm just itching to get it... plus my original reason of course.

I went from 18-105 to 18-70 on my old d90. I did this due to it being approx 1 stop better and also because the lens is of better quality. At first I did miss the extra reach but soon forgot about that and if it was a choice now I would go for 18-70 as that is a great lens and am only selling mine as I have a 17-55 f2.8. Don't miss not having vr, great on my 70-300 but at below 100 not sure if it makesmuch difference. From what u say the 18-200 may be your best bet but is pricey and can be soft.

Of the lenses in my signature, the order of most use is 55-200, 50, 18-105 and 70-300.

I prefer the pictures from the Tamron and it only cost me £42.00.

My son tends to use my 18-105 on his D40 more than I do.

Hi Snownation.

Could you put the the full spec off your 18-55 and 55-300 so i can have read up about them please.

I have the 18-105mm VR and may be interested.
