I didnt go for the sony i went for the canon 450d instead can anyone recommend a good but reasonbly priced macro lens ideally true 1.1 macro

Define 'reasonably priced'!

Personally I used the 100mm macro, it's a blinding lens, seriously! Other good ones are the sigma 105mm, and the canon 60mm. Depends how much you want to spend, and what you're going to be shooting. If it's bugs, and things that'll run away, the longer the better really! If not, it's your choice!

Hi Louise, what sort of macro subjects were you thinking of? Flowers, insects, droplets etc. There is a good thread at the top of the macro forum:thumbs:

Hi Louise

The Sigma 50mm Macro is a cracker and true 1:1 and is reasonably priced - around the £200. If your not shooting insects, the shorter focal length shouldn't be an issue. If you are, I'd go for a 100 / 105mm lens.

In that case, go for either the Sigma 105mm macro, or the canon 100mm! Or if you're feeling really flush, the Canon 100mm L macro (at around £800). Job done :D

i've got the 100mm L and its the bomb, the IS is great and it makes a superb portrait lens too

I was in the same boat as you, I needed a macro lens for a project and didn't want to spend serious money. I have just upgraded my body and bought a siggy 10-20. So after a bit of research I found that cosina do a 100mm macro, with a macro convertor it does 1:1. I got it for £50 and am awaiting delivery. It's build and AF is supposed to be a bit dodgy but the IQ is supposed to be good. I will post a little review and some results once I get it, hopefully tomorrow. Maybe it's worth a look for starters.

thats the macro lens i had for my sony which im currently selling as its useless to me now i have the canon and really liked it

Oh rite so for the money the cosina gave good sharp results? If you were looking for the canon fit one, it took me a month of looking on flea bay then 4 came up at once. I got mine for £50 boxed, the other 2 went for closer to £100. All I can say is check everyday, seems everybody is happy with them, well non pros, and only give them up if they are upgrading to the 100mm canon.

im gutted that it wont fit on my 450d otherwise id be keeping it im trying to find the same lens but canon fit found a few but whether i get them

Can definitely recommend the Canon 100mm Macro - especially used on a tripod.

This was a handheld shot taken indoors of a wasp:

The only problem I have with it is holding it steady outside if using it close up.

Which is why I will be exchanging it for the IS version.

Where have u seen them? I just had a look on eBay and all 4 that was on sale have gone. I litterally looked for a month. You wouldn't have any example ***** taken with it on your Sony?
