Looking for a walkaround DX lens

I have a D90 and am looking to get nice and sharp walkaround lens. Something around the 35mm focal length. I've been looking at the 35mm 1.8g Nikkor Prime but the harsh bokeh kind of puts me off. Is there anything similar about? Same kind of price up towards £200ish.
 
It's far from harsh bokeh on the 35mm, if you really want 35mm it's about your only choice unless you want a zoom, tamron 17-50mm f2.8 would be a good choice and can be had for £200-£250 depending on model wanted.

I don't find the bokeh harsh on the 35mm, I have seen youtube videos where they proclaim the bokeh is harsh, but to be fair the subject they are showing is going to be harsh with most lenses.

Having looked through some more photos on flickr taken with the lens I think you make a very valid point. There are some cracking photos on there taken with that lens with lovely bokeh. I think the 35mm 1.8g may very well be the lens I'm after.
 
I agree with Ivan's suggestions. I have the 35mm which is very good for low light indoor and have the Tamron 17-50 non vc which is also a nice lens for the little time I have had it.

I've had the tamron non VC 17-50, the 35 and 50 f1.8 on the d90

Loved them all but the tummy was my fave!
 
How about Nikon 40mm f/2.8G DX? not that much difference to the 35mmF1.8 but you get the micro ability as well. ;)
 
I have the Nikon 35mm 1.8g and it is very rarely off my camera, it is really sharp in my eyes and the bokeh is not harsh to me.
 
Purely for walkabout purposes I would choose the following (in that order):

1) Nikon 18-200 VR/3.5-5.6
Simply, great quality lens for the price had second hand. Everything you would want bar a fast aperture. This would be my top of the list go to lens for walkabouts hands down. Slightly out of budget but worth considering.

2) Tamron 17-50/2.8
This one is everything you would want bar telephoto range.

3) 35/1.8
Nice FOV for a dx body therefore useful for lots of purposes. Really nice bokeh. Drawback for me is that it's a prime and therefore not always the best option.

4) Nikon 18-70/3.5-4.5
Useful range, sharp, manual override and generally superb optics. Drawback - slow aperture and no vr.

+1 for the Nikon 18-70.

I did recently purchase a Tamron 18-200 and used that on holiday and the photographs I got with it were superb, surprisingly sharp for the price!
 
Should I recommend a walk-around, it would definitely be a zoom. Like the above mentioned 18-70 or even "better", the 16-85...
